SUDHA CARS MUSEUM - A WACKY INNOVATION IN THE CITY OF PEARLS

Inventions have transformed our lives, culture and environment. One of such is the invention of Automobile. With the changing times, the kind of inventions taking place today are not only physical in nature but also innovative. Such innovations are a sign of creativity a person has towards the things that surround his or her daily routine.

SUDHA CARS MUSEUM

One such innovation can be seen at Sudha Cars Museum established in 2010 in the city of pearls, Hyderabad. It is the first and only handmade “Wacky Car Museum” in the world. It is the brain child of Mr. Sudhakar Yadav, a Guinness record holder in 2006 for making the largest tricycle in the world. He is also featured into books like Ripley’s Believe It or Not in 2008, Limca Book of Records in 2009 and in The World’s 100 Weirdest Museums in the year 2016. Mr. Sudhakar got hooked on to this hobby right from his school days.

He used to visit the Sunday flea markets to bring some junk home. In this junk he could find and make use of the lanterns, mascots, mud guards, fenders and highlights. This junk material was easily available to him as the Nawabs and the nobles residing in Hyderabad owned a plathora of Vantage Cars. The availability of resources encouraged him to explore his passion for automobiles.

At the age of 15, he made his first ‘Easy Rider Motorbike’. He tried his hands on a four– wheeler when he was studying in Intermediate II year and created a stunning, rugged looking ‘Dune Buggy’. After these, he has designed about 500 different types of cars like ‘Go Karts’, ‘Dune Buggies’ and ‘Wacky Cars.’

Early he developed 20th Century models of cars and buses (Single and Double Decker.) Presently, the buses are being used for sightseeing in the city. Adding to his collection are 12 different types of Motorcycles, the smallest being 13 inches high, which can travel at a speed of about 30KMPH. The different designs of mobikes include, ‘Three-Wheeler Motorcycles’, ‘Easy Riders’ ‘Scramblers go pads’ etc.

Mr. Sudhakar stated that some of the cars are created keeping special occasions in mind. For Women's Day, he designed a car shaped like a handbag and stiletto. For Bal Diwas (Children's Day), he designed cars based on a penpencil and sharpener. A condom shaped car was unveiled to commemorate World AIDS Day. A Cricket Ball and Bat Car was specially made to cheer the team India for 2003 and 2007 World Cup with a tape, briefing us on the Cricket World Cup history. The Football Car was made to commemorate the FIFA Football World Cup.

Mr. Sudhakar has created a Guinness World Record for the Largest Tricycle in the World. The tricycle is 41 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 3 tons with the wheel diameter of 17 feet. It is 37 feet 4 inches long. The tricycle is powered by the pedal, chain sprockets and gears. It took him over three years to build this giant.

On being asked about his team he replied, “My employees also tend to be unusual as I don’t have a particular set of workers to work with. My painter is a bus conductor of the TSRTC, but he suits my requirements perfectly.”

Creating Wacky cars has not just been a practice of creativity but a life-long passion in such a way that the moment he looked at an object, his mind would start thinking about wheel placements, the engine and other detailing. The World War II Section at Sudha Cars Museum is a great attraction where people get to see the original World War II vehicles which according to Mr. Sudhakar, he found them while he was going through the junkyards nearby the museum.

One of the questions that pops up by the visitors of the Museum is, from where does Mr. Sudhakar get this inspiration? To which Mr. Sudhakar replies that "It's the rush of adrenaline that courses through me every time I set out to make a new and unusual vehicle. And it is always a challenging job to make something which the world hasn't seen before.”

One can visit Sudha Cars Museum in less than a movies ticket. The museum takes care of its visitors by providing facilities like a guide, permit to take photos and videos, parking for two wheelers, cars and buses and a small canteen, all this at a pocket friendly price.

Bansilalpet Stepwell, is another discovery in the heart of the city. It is a tourist attraction because of its transformation lately. If you haven’t visited it yet, then you might be missing out on something unique to Hyderabad, a city in the deccan plateau.
