Hyderabad, often referred to now as the "City of Pearls" or "Cyberabad," is a city that seamlessly blends tradition and technology. Nestled in the heart of southern India, it is a place where history and modernity coexist, creating a unique cultural tapestry.

THE PEACEFUL CYBERABAD


Hyderabad these days is known for its highly structured buildings, modernity and technology, but it also houses century old cultures, traditions and attractions which can be still seen predominantly in what is now called the ‘Old city’ of Hyderabad. This change of name has mainly happened because of all the changes that have been encountered. But no matter what changes take place in the city, it will always be known for its original name ‘The city of Nizams’.

Hyderabad's history began when Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the sixth Qutb Shahi dynasty monarch, built the city in the late 16th century. Under the tutelage of the Qutb Shahi kings, the city, which had its origins along the southern banks of the Musi River, prospered as a hub of art, culture, and commerce. But Hyderabad truly came into its own as a cosmopolitan center under the rule of the Nizams, who came to power in the early 1700s and were known for their lavish palaces, imposing mosques, and lively bazaars.

With its winding streets and rows of buildings and monuments dating back hundreds of years, Hyderabad's old city in particular functioned as the centre of the city's socio-cultural environment. And with that there also came the existence of the most attractive and talked about place in Hyderabad which is also the main tourist place of it, ‘Charminar’.

But its not just the Charminar which is the attraction of the Old city of Hyderabad, there are quite a few of them which one needs to visit when they take a trip to Hyderabad and specifically the old city side of it. But Definitely Charminar is an important one which cannot be skipped, and along with it here are a few more of them which one compulsorily needs to visit in order to explore the ‘old’ side of Hyderabad.

 

Mecca Masjid

THE SACRED MECCA MASJID

Just adjacent to Charminar, stands tall the biggest and oldest mosques in India, the Mecca Masjid. Built in the era of Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, this magnificent mosque is a feat of architecture, with an enormous courtyard and a commanding prayer hall. The call to prayer reverberates through its sacred corridors which have carved arches inscribed with lines from the Quran, five times a day in the Mosque which echoes even in far off places.

 

Chowmahalla Palace

The opulent realm of the Nizams can be witnessed at the next attraction which is the Chowmahalla Palace, an expansive edifice that was formerly the Asaf Jahi dynasty's seat. The lavish and extravagant architecture of the century old palace features gorgeous Persian carpets, gilded ceilings, and elaborate chandeliers. One must compulsorily take a tour of the magnificent Durbar Hall of the Palace, meander among the verdant grounds, and picture the opulence of the bygone period when they come to Old City.

 

Laad Bazaar

THE BUZZING LAAD BAZAR


Laad Bazaar is the next spot which cannot be missed when visiting the Old City. It is a busy market known for its magnificent lacquer bangles and traditional Hyderabadi apparel and one will itself in the colourful tapestry of colours and noises. It's located quite near to Charminar which makes it all the way more special and bustling. The rich tapestry of local culture can be seen widely as you explore through its winding alleyways, which are packed with booths offering everything from glittering silk to fragrant spices.

 

Golconda Fort

THE MAJESTIC GOLCONDA


Hyderabad's military might and architectural creativity are demonstrated by the Golconda Fort, which is perched on top of a rocky hill with a commanding view of the city. The fort has an expansive complex, which includes exquisite waterworks, royal residences, and imposing ramparts. And the Sound and Light Show are definitely not something to miss while visiting it which uses stunning light show and narrative to bring the fort's illustrious past to life.

Charminar

The Charminar is a magnificent example of iconic architecture that stands tall as the city of Hyderabad's emblem. This magnificent structure, which was constructed in 1591 by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, is well-known for its four enormous arches, each of which is decorated with elaborate Islamic themes and tall minarets. Climbing the slender spiral staircase of Charminar will give you an extremely beautiful vistas of the busy city and its surroundings.

The charm of Charminar is amplified during the festival of Ramzan. If you haven't visited it, you are missing out on witnessing its remarkable beauty.
